HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man shot at a female escort and her driver after getting into an argument with the woman at his apartment in Hollywood on Thursday.

It all started around 4:30 a.m. when police said the suspect called for an escort. She was dropped off, went inside, and then 15 minutes later, she tried leaving in a panic, calling for her driver to come back.

"She immediately went outside the apartment, the suspect followed her, the victim got into the vehicle, and her driver tried proceeding to leave the location, at which time the suspect fired several rounds at the two victims, striking the vehicle," said LAPD Lt. John Jenal.

Jenal said one bullet was found lodged in the driver's seat, though the victims themselves were not hit.

"It sounded loud. It was like eight shots. It was very, very loud. It was very scary," said area resident Blanca Robles.

Robles watched the whole thing unfold from across the street.

"It was exciting to see the LAPD do a good job, very great job they did, very professional," she said.

LAPD investigators said they are not sure if the escort was there for a lap dance or sex, how it escalated, and if she knew the suspect prior to the early morning call.

After the shots were fired, the suspect, described as a man in his mid 20s, barricaded himself in his apartment for nearly four hours. A SWAT team arrived on scene, and he eventually surrendered shortly before 9 a.m.

He is expected to face several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder.

Jenal said detectives will speak to the woman and the suspect to get both sides of the story.
