Granada Hills Charter High School won the 2016 U.S. Academic Decathlon in Alaska Saturday, making it the school's fifth national championship in six years. (KABC)

Granada Hills Charter High School won the 2016 U.S. Academic Decathlon in Alaska Saturday, making it the school's fifth national championship in six years.

The nine-member team received a score of 54,195.1 out of 60,000 as they competed against more than 450 students from across the U.S., Canada, China and the United Kingdom. The competition took place over the weekend in Anchorage, Alaska.

The members include Aishah Mahmud, Joshua Lin, Melissa Santos, Isha Gupta, Jorge Zepeda, Mark Aguila, Mayeena Ulkarim, Christopher Lo and Julian Duran.

The San Fernando Valley school won the national titles from 2011 to 2013 and in 2015. Last month, the school also won the California Academic Decathlon.
