NEW YORK CITY -- A 7-year-old girl with autism survived a frightening four-story fall early Monday after climbing out her New York City apartment building window.

Officials said the girl climbed out the window and onto a fourth floor fire escape in University Heights just after 2 a.m.
She fell and landed on the pavement below. The incident was captured on surveillance video.
The video showed the girl getting up and stumbling before 13-year-old Daniel Castro came to her aid after he heard the girl strike the pavement and her cries.
Daniel brought the girl to his family's apartment where his mother called for help.
The girl was bleeding slightly from the mouth, but otherwise was conscious and alert, officials said. She was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Officials said the girl was non-verbal and unable to communicate what happened. Police said the incident was under investigation.
