TARZANA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles police are investigating the shooting death of a man found lying inside a carport in Tarzana Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to the Parc Tarzana Condominiums in the 18600 block of Hatteras Street shortly after 2:15 p.m.

A stolen vehicle was found crashed against a wall. Police believe the victim lives in the apartment complex and may have known his attackers.

"We have not confirmed the victim's identity yet, but we believe he lived at the complex," LAPD Capt. Paul Vernon said. "The parking lot has a security gate on both ends, which would tend to restrict persons who don't belong there."

The victim, who was shot at least one time, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Authorities say they're searching for a man and a woman who were seen running from the area.

"Based on witnesses' statements, our victim had staggered from this car -- we're not sure if he had been in the car or not -- and the two other people were seen running from the car after it collided with this wall," Vernon said.

Neighbors say the apartment complex is a hotbed for drug and gang activity.

The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information was asked to contact LAPD Detective Robert Dinlocker with the Valley Bureau Homicide Unit at (213) 361-7961.
