FULLERTON, Calif. (KABC) -- The body of an elderly man was found inside a Fullerton home that erupted in flames early Friday morning.

Firefighters received a call around 1 a.m. about a residential fire in the 800 block of El Dorado Drive. Authorities quickly knocked down the fire and then found a man's body inside a front bedroom in the one-story, single-family home.

It was unclear what caused the fire. Authorities said it was also unclear if the man died in the fire or before it started.

The victim lived in the home with his wife, according to officials, but his wife was not home at the time.

According to neighbors, the victim was a teacher and former educator.

"We've been neighbors for 11 years. He was always a good neighbor to us. We've had a good relationship with him. He kept to himself a lot, but every interaction I've had with him has been a positive one," George Finch said.

Authorities say the home was cluttered and that may have made it difficult for the victim to get out.

The investigation was ongoing. No further information was immediately available.
