Travelers surprised by shorter holiday lines at LAX
Lines at LAX were shorter Monday, in contrast to the long waits that travelers had to endure Friday as they left town for the Memorial Day weekend.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Some 220,000 people are supposed to fly in and out of Los Angeles International Airport on Monday, but early indications are that lines are running smoothly.

The relatively calm scene at LAX was a contrast to the long wait times for security Friday when people were trying to leave town.

Airport officials say about 849,000 people will travel through the facility over the Memorial Day weekend.

Experienced travelers say the biggest key to making your trip go well is to arrive early to the airport. The other tip is to bring your patience, in case the lines do get longer.

"I got there about two hours before and was thinking it was going to be crazy but it actually wasn't," said traveler Mark Maynart of Chicago. "It was actually pretty good."
