ARCADIA, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities search for a man suspected of physically and sexually assaulting a woman in a Santa Anita inn.

Around 8:43 p.m. Tuesday, Arcadia police received a call regarding a disturbance at a hotel in the 100 block of W. Huntington Drive. The female victim reported being physically and sexually assaulted by a man she knew while inside one of the rooms.

The relationship between the man and the woman was unclear.

Police tried to make contact with the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Adrian Thomas Chavez, inside the room. Police set up a perimeter and evacuated guests from the inn for nearly eight hours before they discovered the man wasn't there.

One guest said he, along with families who had infants and small children, were stuck inside of a lobby during the search.

The investigation was ongoing.
