PANORAMA CITY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Three people were killed and two others were wounded in a murder-suicide in Panorama City, according to authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Authorities responded to calls of a reported shooting at an apartment complex in the 8500 block of Cedros Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m., the LAPD said.

Police said the suspect, described as a 46-year-old man, shot and wounded his ex-girlfriend and her 20-year-old son and then killed the woman's two teen daughters - ages 13 and 17.

The suspect then turned the gun on himself, police said.

Authorities said the gunfire began after an argument between the suspect and his ex-girlfriend.

"Her 20-year-old son heard the shot, went to investigate. The suspect turns his attention toward that man and fired several shots at him, striking him in the back," said Detective Richard Wheeler of the LAPD. "As he fled the location, the suspect then turned his attention toward our victims, two juvenile daughters. He shot and killed both of them and then he turned the gun on himself."

Police said the woman and her son remained in stable condition.
