SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 2.9-magnitude earthquake struck near Santa Monica on Thursday, according to the United States Geological Service.

The earthquake hit about 2.5 miles southwest of Santa Monica in the Pacific Ocean at about 6:45 p.m.

The USGS released a preliminary magnitude of 2.9, then lowered it to 2.8 before bringing it back to a 2.9 again.

The ABC7 Quake Cam captured the moment the earthquake struck.

ABC7 viewers reported feeling the earthquake in Santa Monica, Venice, Pacific Palisades, Playa del Rey and Playa Vista.
