Laguna Beach police said an Uber driver was assaulted by his passengers.

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- An Uber driver was violently assaulted by his passengers in Laguna Beach and police hope surveillance video will lead to the arrest of the suspects.

Laguna Beach police said they responded to the scene at about 1:30 a.m. on Monday.

The driver reported two drunk men had gotten into his car near South Coast Highway and Brooks Street and told him to drive without giving a specific location.

Feeling uncomfortable, the driver stated he canceled the trip and asked the men to exit his car.

The driver reported the men refused to get out.

In the video, police said one of the men can be seen lifting the driver, shoving him into the car causing damage to the door, then throwing him to the ground.

Authorities said the second man then grabbed the driver's phone and threw it.

Both suspects ran from the scene, according to officials.

The driver is recovering from his injuries. No arrests have been made in the case.
