Man shot, killed riding bike on dirt path along LA River in Bell Gardens

BELL GARDENS, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was shot and killed while riding his bicycle along the Los Angeles River in Bell Gardens Monday afternoon.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide detectives responded to a dirt path along the river, west of the 710 Freeway and north of Firestone Boulevard. Witnesses told police around 6:26 p.m. a man was riding his bike along the path when a suspect ran up to him and shot him.

The suspect was described as a man wearing dark clothes and was last seen running into a car on the southbound 710 Freeway, fleeing out of sight. No description of the car was available.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. No further information was released.
