EL MONTE, Calif. (KABC) --A young father was gunned down in El Monte on Saturday during what investigators believe was a case of road rage.
Family identified the victim as 23-year-old Victor Garcia, a father of two who was engaged to Carizon Chilin.
"It's really hard to tell them their dad is not going to come back anymore," Chilin said.
Garcia and his younger brother were returning home from work at the family's tire store when family said trouble started with two men in an SUV.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said a suspect from the SUV fired into Garcia's vehicle at about 7 p.m. near Cogswell Road and Klingerman Street.
"They were following them and then the other truck got next to them and he (Garcia's brother) saw when the man took out the gun. So he was able to duck down, but since Victor was driving he couldn't duck down," Chilin described.
Garcia was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Garcia's brother was not injured, according to officials.
According to Garcia's brother, the suspects were in a 2006-2009 black Jeep Cherokee with black rims.
Chilin said Garcia's 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter were devastated.
Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
