Donald Trump has chosen Indiana Gov. Mike Pence to be his running mate, ABC News has learned.

Trump offered the position to Pence on Thursday and the governor accepted, sources told ABC News.

A formal announcement had been planned for Friday morning in New York City, but Trump delayed the press conference after the terror attack in Nice, France.

Pence, a staunch conservative, served six terms in Congress and supported Sen. Ted Cruz during the Republican primary, but later spoke very highly of Trump.

The other names that Trump had been considering were New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
