Driver arrested in Compton crash that killed father of 5

COMTPON, Calif. (KABC) -- A driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in Compton back in May is finally behind bars after sheriff's detectives presented more evidence in the case.

Marvin Jones, 42, was waiting for a bus near Wilmington Avenue and Greenleaf Drive when he was struck by a car.

According to the accident report, 58-year-old Reginald Ross admitted drinking and smoking pot before driving.

Jones, a father of five, was put on life support, but he later died from his injuries.

The district attorney's office initially rejected the case pending further investigation, and Ross was released.

This week, detectives presented additional evidence that led the DA to file the case.

Ross was arrested on Wednesday and booked into Century Regional Detention Center for vehicular manslaughter and DUI, authorities said. He is being held on $250,000 bail.
