Suspect struck, officer injured in Lawndale officer-involved shooting
A suspect was shot and an officer injured during an officer-involved shooting in Lawndale.

LAWNDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspect was shot and an officer suffered a back injury during in an officer-involved shooting near a Lawndale motel Tuesday morning.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, Redondo Beach police officers shot a suspect in the parking lot of a Best Western in the 15000 block of Hawthorne Boulevard at about 10:20 a.m.

Deputies said SWAT officers from the Redondo Beach Police Department located a suspect who was wanted for an assault on a Redondo Beach police officer about a week ago.

When officers found the suspect, they said he was in a car and attempted to evade officers, according to the sheriff's department.

Deputies said the suspect drove head-on into an officer's car, and that's when the suspect was shot once in the chest.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and his condition was not available from officials.

An officer who was in the patrol car that was crashed into suffered a back injury and was taken to the hospital. He was listed in good condition.

Police originally stated they believed multiple suspects were at large, but later said they didn't believe any other suspects were involved in the incident.
