SYLMAR, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The driver of a motorhome died after losing control and crashing into the side of a Sylmar house late Thursday night.

Authorities said around 11:40 p.m. the motorhome driver was heading down Roxford Street when he somehow lost control and barreled into a home in the 13600 block of North Borden Avenue in Sylmar.

The driver died, but the couple inside the home, who were less than 20 feet from the crash site, were unharmed. The impact of the crash was so strong it caused part of the home's roof to collapse.

The Los Angeles coroner identified the driver as 52-year-old James Digaetano, who may have been a resident of Sylmar. A dog was also in the mobile home and suffered an injury, authorities said.

Authorities said speed was likely a factor in the crash and are looking into whether the driver had a medical condition that may have caused him to lose control.
