Two men were arrested after a man was shot and later died in a church parking lot in Covina, according to police.

COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- Two men were arrested in connection to a shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead in a church parking lot, Covina police said Sunday.

Adam Hernandez, a 21-year-old from Covina, and 20-year-old Christopher Avila of Covina were arrested and booked for investigation of robbery and murder.

Search warrants were served for Hernandez in the 1400 block of N. Armel Drive and Avila in the 1200 block of N. O'Malley overnight after a man, identified as Issac Urena, was shot and killed.

Covina police said Urena appeared to have been shot during the robbery at a restaurant parking lot in the 800 block of W. San Bernardino Road Saturday morning.

Police said the crime occurred after a meeting was arranged on Offerup, an online marketplace app.

"We don't know if they had an altercation prior, if they knew each other, or if this was a random act," Sgt. Gregg Peterson of the Covina Police Department said. "We just know that the victim was there to sell some merchandise."

After Urena was shot, his friend drove away from the scene and into the parking lot of Faith Community Church in West Covina, police said.

There, local emergency personnel responded to the scene, but Urena was pronounced dead.

Hernandez and Avila were housed at the Covina jail pending their arraignment at Citrus Superior Court on Tuesday.

Both were held on $2 million bail.

Anyone with information or questions was urged to contact the Covina Police Department.
