LEBEC, Calif. (KABC) -- Sheriff's homicide detectives responded to the unincorporated area of Lebec Sunday to investigate the death of a woman in her 20s, authorities said.

After making a rest stop on Gorman Post Road, just north of the 138 Freeway, a passing motorist saw the woman lying in a remote area shortly before 5 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement. The unidentified victim appeared to be unconscious, which led the driver to call 911.

Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station and county firefighter-paramedics were dispatched to the location, where they discovered that the victim had suffered head trauma, according to the news release. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death is expected to be determined by the county coroner's office.

No other details were available about the investigation, which was ongoing Monday.
