LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A pursuit came to a fiery end after a driver being chased by police slammed into a light pole in Los Angeles, shortly before the car ignited in flames.

Police began chasing the driver, who was maneuvering erratically through surface streets in Los Angeles, around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver was seen blowing through stop signs along Western Avenue.

The suspect then drove the car straight into a light pole near the intersection of Arden Street and Beverly Boulevard.

The car dragged the pole for several feet before coming to a stop. The front portion of the vehicle then erupted in flames.

The driver jumped out of the car and fell face down on the pavement. He was taken into custody by police a short time later. It was unclear what started the pursuit.
