SAN JACINTO, Calif. (KABC) --A Menifee family's Pomeranian is back home now after getting lost and ending up in Canada, more than 1,300 miles from home.
Brownie Bear wandered away from home about two weeks ago. Unfortunately, his family was scheduled to take a cruise the next day - and they say they couldn't cancel because the trip was for a terminally ill family member.
"While we were on the cruise, my wife was hysterical," said Brian Van Sant.
The Pomeranian was found not too long after he got lost. But when the hold at the local shelter expired, he was on his way to a Canadian rescue group.
Later, when the rescue group found out what happened, Brownie was on his way back to Southern California, and he was reunited with the grateful Van Sant family.
"We thought we'd lost him," Van Sant said.
Now Brownie Bear will be microchipped so this won't happen again.
