WEST COVINA, Calif. (KABC) -- A woman was found dead in West Covina on Monday morning, prompting a response by homicide investigators, authorities said.

The unidentified woman's body was discovered at about 5 a.m. in the 3400 block of Sentous Avenue, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, whose detectives were assisting West Covina police.

Authorities responded to the apartment complex on reports of a person not breathing. The call came from a man inside the apartment at the time, but he is not believe to be a resident and his relationship to the woman is unclear.

Emergency responders were unable to save the woman who was in her 20s. Authorities believe the death is suspicions but stopped short of calling it an actual homicide pending further investigation.

"Due to her young age, she's in her 20s, and we really haven't seen any trauma to the body or anything like that. At this point, we're early on in our investigation," Lt. Joe Mendoza said.

News video from AIR7 HD showed police officers and investigators in the parking lot of an apartment complex at the scene.

It was not immediately clear how the woman died. The coroner will have to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
