'Fossilized human bones' found in unincorporated Azusa

AZUSA, Calif. (KABC) -- Los Angeles County sheriff's officials were investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of human remains in an unincorporated part of Azusa on Sunday.

The remains, which LASD officials said appear to be "fossilized human bones," were found by locals in the 15200 block of San Gabriel Canyon Road at about 12:20 p.m.

The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner - Coroner's Office and homicide detectives were working to identify the victim. Officials said it was unknown how long the remains had been in the area.

No other information was released.
