Group of teens go on robbery spree in South LA, police say

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A group of teenagers took a bus into a South Los Angeles neighborhood Wednesday evening to rob several people, according to officials.

Los Angeles police said five juveniles targeted people on the streets beginning at about 9 p.m.

Authorities said the group assaulted and robbed their first victim, a man who was on his front lawn.

Det. Richard Record with the Los Angeles Police Department said one of the teens pointed a gun at the victim as another took his keys and attempted to steal the man's vehicle.

The teens left the vehicle and ventured toward 36th Place and Cimarron Avenue where they targeted a man and a woman, according to police.

Officials said the teens put the woman in a chokehold. When the man attempted to help her, authorities said the teens attacked him.

The teens stole some of the victims' property and fled the area.

Officers responded to the area and took one of the suspects into custody immediately. A second teen was later spotted with the help of a helicopter and was detained.

A third teen was eventually found by K-9s hiding near a home. Police said after the third teen refused to comply with orders, a K-9 bit him on the face.

The teen's injuries were non-life threatening, according to police.

Two of the suspects remain at large, authorities stated.
