A 20-year-old man was hospitalized with multiple facial injuries Thursday after being bitten by a pit bull mix in front of a fast-food restaurant in Eagle Rock, authorities said. Two women are being sought in the case.

The man was soliciting funds for the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program, known as D.A.R.E., shortly before 7 p.m. outside a Jersey Mike's in the 2600 block of Colorado Boulevard, Sgt. Christopher Gomez of the Los Angeles Police Department said in an email.

Two women in their mid-20s approached Ian Alli with a pit bull mix on a leash and made a donation, he said, adding that he then asked if the dog was friendly.

One of the women said yes, and Alli bent down to pet the animal, he said.

The woman "brought the dog over to my hand, she rubbed my hand twice and then the dog lunged at me," he said, adding that it bit him on his face, mouth and nose.

The victim's father, Brian Alli, said he wants the dog's owner apprehended and arrested.

"What I can't understand is how these girls would run from the scene when he's laying there, bleeding out," he said, referring to his son. "Because this dog literally has cut through his lip, torn the side open, missed his eyeball by a centimeter. He bled excessively."

Ian Alli was transported to Glendale Adventist Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

According to the police sergeant, officers conducted a search for the suspect and the dog, to no avail.
