NORTH HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A motorcyclist was killed and a passenger of a van injured in a crash Sunday afternoon in the North Hills area of the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.

Shortly after 2 p.m., the man on the motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the van in the 15100 block of Nordhoff Street, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not immediately identified.

A 19-year-old woman was extricated by firefighter-paramedics after being trapped for more than 17 minutes in the front passenger area of the van, the fire department said in a statement. She was transported to a hospital in serious condition.

The two other occupants of the van - the adult female driver and a male teenage passenger - were uninjured, fire officials said.

The intersection of Nordhoff Street and Noble Avenue was shut down as a Los Angeles Police Department investigation got underway. It was unclear when the intersection would be reopened.
