Family speaks out after mother of 4 killed in suspected DUI crash in Montclair

The family of a woman who was killed in a wrong way crash on her way to work spoke out Tuesday as the suspect pleaded not guilty in court.

Daisy Batres was a wife and mother of four. She was killed on her way to work Thursday morning.

It was around 3 a.m. when authorities said a man driving the wrong way on the 10 Freeway in Montclair collided with Batres. The man is suspected of driving under the influence.

"People's wrong choices end up taking someone very important like they did to us," her daughter Yvette Alvarado said.

The family said their faith and the outpouring of support has helped them cope with the loss. The 52-year-old was a custodian at Cal Poly Pomona for more than 10 years.

Batres and her husband came from El Salvador looking to achieve the American dream, and they had just bought their first home 10 months ago.

Her husband of 30 years described Batres as a flower whose most beautiful quality was her sweet and selfless heart.

Alvarado said her mother was known for putting other people first no matter the situation. Batres' son William Alvarado Batres, said it hurts to know his mother can no longer be near him.

"She was a loving mom and she would do anything for us. I am so proud to be called her son, and I hope that I keep making her proud," he said.
