Fire at narcotics lab in Hollywood leaves 1 person severely burned, LAPD says

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One person suffered severe burns Thursday morning after a fire broke out at a narcotics lab in a Hollywood apartment building, authorities said.

A caller reported an explosion at 2:45 a.m. at a second-story apartment in the 1900 block of Cahuenga Boulevard that was possibly a honey oil lab, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Firefighters responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the blaze, aided by the six-story building's sprinkler system.

A patient's face and hands were burned in the incident, the LAPD said. That person was in unknown condition after being transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

No evacuations were ordered, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said. Firefighters were "de-watering" the flooded interior of the structure as part of a cleanup operation.

Arson investigators and narcotics detectives were summoned to the location, police said.

The cause of the fire was unknown.
