SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- A 19-year-old man was shot and wounded in the leg Wednesday afternoon during an attempted robbery at his home in San Bernardino, his father said.

The incident took place shortly after 2 p.m. on 59th Street, where the victim was sleeping at the time of the incident. Kevin Caudle said his teenage son woke to find a man climbing through his window.

"He called me, basically told me, 'Someone tried to break into the house. I've been shot in the leg. Get home now,'" Caudle said.

Neighbors said the gunman and another man ran from the home, entered the backseat of an older-model silver C230 Mercedes-Benz sedan driven by a third person and fled the scene. No description of the suspects was available.

Caudle said his son was doing well after being hospitalized. Asked about his reaction to the episode, the father said: "Pissed. (I) want revenge. You want to know the truth?"'

"I just hope they catch them, because that's ridiculous," he added.

Despite being a quiet area, he said, the neighborhood has been hit by crime in recent months. He pointed out two homes and that he said had been broken into, along with 12 mailboxes.
