A geyser erupted after a car crashed and sheared a fire hydrant in El Sereno on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016.

EL SERENO, Calif. (KABC) -- A car sheared a power pole and a fire hydrant in El Sereno early Friday morning, resulting in a power outage and a geyser that shot hundreds of gallons of water into the air for several hours.

The driver of a silver Dodge Charger fled the scene after the 2 a.m. collision in the 4700 block of Klamath Street, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said.

According to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, 124 customers in the area were without power. It was unclear how many residents' water service may have been interrupted.

LADWP crews arrived at the location shortly before 5 a.m.

Water from the hydrant was still pouring out more than an hour later.
