BETHPAGE, Long Island -- A man is accused of fatally stabbing his 41-year-old wife, attacking his 16-year-old daughter, then fleeing their Bethpage home when his 12-year-old son called 911.

Pursued into Brooklyn, police said the suspect crashed through an East New York gas station, fled his burning vehicle and was subdued by multiple Nassau County police officers.

The 44-year-old suspect was taken to Brookdale University Hospital with stab wounds to his neck and wrist. He underwent surgery.

"This is a very very tragic event for the community and the family. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and friends," said Nassau Police Detective Lieutenant Richard LeBrun.

His wife was pronounced dead at their Seitz Drive home just after 12:40 a.m. The teen daughter was treated for defensive wounds to her hands, forearm and a laceration to her ankle. The son was not injured.

Six police officers were injured. Four Nassau County police officers were treated for smoke inhalation. One officer was treated for a head injury and another sustained a wrist injury. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Nassau police said they responded to the home in March for a verbal disagreement between the father and son.
