Houston teacher impregnated by 8th grader pleads guilty

HOUSTON -- A former middle school teacher in Houston who admitted to having sex with her 13-year-old student and became pregnant with the teen's child pleaded guilty on Wednesday.

According to court documents, 24-year-old Alexandria Vera met the teenage boy who was a student in her 8th grade English class during summer school at Stovall Middle School in 2015.

Officials said a sexual relationship developed and Vera claimed she and the teen were in love.

Court documents said the boy's parents were accepting of the relationship and even included Vera in family gatherings.

Vera became pregnant with the boy's baby in January and his family was said to be excited and supportive about the baby, court documents detailed.

But after Vera and the teen were questioned about their relationship during an unexpected visit to the school by Child Protective Services in February, Vera reportedly became nervous and terminated the pregnancy.

Vera pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child in a plea deal that would lower her minimum sentence to five years, meaning she could be released on probation.

She was expected to be back in court for sentencing in January 2017.

ABC7 sister station ABC13 reported the teen was currently in foster care.
