SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An LAPD officer shot and wounded a family's pet dog overnight Thursday in South Los Angeles after the animal allegedly bit another officer.

The incident took place outside a home near Normandie Avenue and 45th Street, where two officers were responding to a call in the Vermont Square neighborhood.

After the dog ran out of a house and bit the officer, the officer's partner opened fire.

A woman, apparently the animal's owner, was seen crying at the scene.

According to police, the dog survived and the injured officer is doing fine.
