2 firefighters injured by downed power lines in El Cerrito

EL CERRITO, RIVERSIDE COUNTY (KABC) -- Two firefighters were shocked by downed power lines while battling a fire in the unincorporated area of El Cerrito Thursday afternoon, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

The fire, dubbed the Hillside Fire, burned about six acres near Hillside Street and Quebec Avenue around 4 p.m.

The injured firefighters were airlifted to a local hospital as a precaution and are both reported to be in stable condition with normal vital signs.

Meanwhile, two structures, an outbuilding, four cars, one mobile home and a detached garage were lost in the fire. Two structures were also damaged.

Along with CalFire personnel, the Corona and Riverside fire departments sent crews to assist.

Smoke was initially visible from the 15 Freeway throughout the El Cerrito and south Corona area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
