JEFFERSON PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Two Los Angeles police officers were hospitalized after being involved in a three-car crash while heading to a pursuit Tuesday night, according to officials.

LAPD said the crash happened at Crenshaw Boulevard at Exposition Boulevard in Jefferson Park at about 9 p.m.

Police said the two officers inside the cruiser were going to back-up other officers who were pursuing a stolen car in the area when the crash happened.

Officials said the patrol car hit a silver SUV, spun out and hit a four-door sedan before coming to a rest in the street.

The officers were taken to the hospital in serious, but stable condition. They were released early Wednesday morning. The occupants of the other two vehicles were not injured in the crash, according to LAPD.

Officials clarified that the officers were not in the pursuit, but on their way to assist in the pursuit.

The pursuit the officers were responding to ended at Adams Boulevard and Somerset Drive in Jefferson Park. The suspect was taken into custody after bailing from his vehicle and attempting to flee on foot, police stated.

No other officers were injured in the chase, LAPD said.
