2 men arrested in possible gang-related shooting in Pomona

POMONA, Calif. (KABC) -- Two men are in custody in connection to a possible gang-related shooting in Pomona Monday evening, according to authorities.

Sergio C. DeLaCruz, 21, of Pomona, and Carlos A. Monge, 24, of Fontana, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, police said. They were booked into Pomona City Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Police said at 6:46 p.m. officers responded to calls of a shooting victim at Dupont Street and Cathy Avenue. Callers told police the suspects who fled the scene were in an old red Astrovan.

When police arrived, a red Astrovan was seen leaving the area and police began to follow the car. As the police unit got closer, the driver and passenger exited the car and fled the scene. Officers caught up to both suspects, who were positively identified as the men involved in the shooting, police said.

A weapon was also recovered at the scene. A motive for the shooting is currently being investigated and officers believe it is gang-related. The shooting victim was treated at the scene by L.A. County Fire personnel and flown out to an area hospital in stable condition.
