Teen suspect shot in La Habra officer-involved shooting
A juvenile suspect was shot and injured in an officer-involved shooting in La Habra on Monday, authorities said.

LA HABRA, Calif. (KABC) -- A juvenile suspect was shot and injured in an officer-involved shooting in La Habra on Monday, authorities said.

The shooting happened about 9:30 a.m. at Guadalupe Park in the 300 block of S. Walnut Street, La Habra police said.

Police said the 16-year-old suspect's sister dialed 911 and told officers her brother armed himself with a gun and had threatened to shoot her. The teen then left the residence on foot, taking the handgun with him.

According to police, the teen told his sister that he wanted to "shoot something and be on the news."

Officers found the teen near Guadalupe Park, where a confrontation ensued and resulted in the teen being struck by gunfire.

He was transported to UCI Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. The teen will remain in custody on charges of attempted homicide, criminal threats and brandishing a firearm, according to police.

Authorities said a gun was recovered at the scene, and the investigation remains open. No officers were injured in the incident.
