MID-WILSHIRE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A man in his 70s was shot and wounded in a home invasion in the Mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles, police said.

The home invasion took place Wednesday in the 1100 block of S. Citrus Avenue. Police said three suspects entered a residence and demanded property. When the man refused, a female suspect shot him in the face before she and the two other suspects fled.

The wounded victim then ran next door to alert a neighbor, who called 911, police said. He was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

According to the LAPD, the female suspect and the victim may know each other.

For nearly four hours, Los Angeles police and K-9 officers searched the neighborhood for the three suspects. Residents were forced to stay in doors and had their vehicles checked. The search came up empty.

It was not known if the suspects made off with any property.

Specific descriptions of the suspects were not provided.
