Prisoner recaptured after escape from LA reentry program
LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A prisoner who walked away from a community reentry program in Los Angeles on Sunday was recaptured Tuesday morning, officials said.
Rolando A. Pineda, 21, walked away from the Male Community Reentry Program Sunday night.
He had been scheduled to be released for parole supervision on March 4, 2018.
He was found and arrested at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday in Bell Gardens by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation Special Service Unit.
He was taken into custody without incident and brought to the California Institution for Men in Chino. The Los Angeles County District's Attorney Office will evaluate the escape for possible prosecution.
Pineda entered the state prison system in October 2016 on a three-year sentence for evading a police officer while driving recklessly. He was serving his time at Ironwood State Prison in Riverside County before he was transferred to the MCRP on Aug. 28.
The community program is designed for offenders to serve the end of their sentences in a reentry center to help them transition back to the community. It is a voluntary program for offenders with less than one year left to serve.
State officials say 99 percent of offenders who have walked away from such programs have been caught.
