Authorities released surveillance video Wednesday that shows two suspects robbing a taco truck customer at gunpoint in Mid-City.

In the video, two men are seen approaching a taco truck at Washington Boulevard and Cimarron Street on Aug. 20. There were other people waiting on food. One of the suspects went around a corner, while the other ordered food.

As soon as the food was served, the first suspect pulled out a gun and demanded one of the men's jewelry. The victim immediately complied, but at one point, the suspect pushed him hard against the fence as he took off his bracelets and necklace.

Police decided to go public with surveillance video on Wednesday because they hit a dead end in their investigation.

"We have very good video, but we're kind of running out of leads. So we're asking for the public's help," LAPD Officer Tony Im said.

The surveillance cameras got good shots of the two young men, both believed to be around 26 or 27 years old.

Taco trucks are a cash business that are open late at night, which makes them an easy target.

"I try not to come too late. The latest I come is probably 11 p.m. or 12," customer Ashley Gillette said.

Customers in the area know of the particular truck that was held up. Some said they are not going to stop them from visiting food trucks later in the evening.

One of the problems police said they are having is that when they've spoken with witnesses or potential witnesses, they say they are afraid of becoming victims themselves.

Anyone with more information was urged to call Olympic area robbery Detective Tokoro at (213) 382-9466. Those wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
