Friends of motorcyclist killed in Pacoima hit-and-run plead for driver to come forward

PACOIMA, Calif. (KABC) -- There was a tribute on two wheels as fellow riders honored John Waters. A single motorcycle marked the spot in Pacoima where the 24-year-old was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

"It's a lot. We don't know if the person will be found," said Waters' friend Natalie Wallis. "For me it's hard because he inspires me. Never met anyone sweeter for someone so sweet to come to a violent death, it's not fair."

The fatal crash happened Saturday night on Osborne in Pacoima. Police said the suspect behind the wheel of the 1999 GMC pickup was making a left turn and pulled out in front of Waters then fled the scene, leaving the 24-year-old and his mangled bike in the middle of the road.

Waters was on his way home from work when he lost his life.

Friends said anything automotive was Waters' passion. He worked at Hamer Toyota just to be around cars.

Described as a kind person with a big heart, Waters was known for making everyone feel special.

"He made you feel like you were the only person," said Wallis.

Family and friends are pleading for the driver to do the right thing.

"Just turn yourself in," one friend said. "People want to know so that there is clarity. Why just leave him there?"
