The death of a woman whose body was found Thursday morning on a road in Perris was being investigated as a possible hit-and-run crash, authorities said.

PERRIS, Calif. (KABC) -- The death of a woman whose body was found Thursday morning on a road in Perris was being investigated as a possible hit-and-run crash, authorities said.

A pedestrian called 911 at about 7 a.m. after discovering the deceased woman in a traffic lane near the intersection of Goetz and Mapes roads, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies responded to the scene and shut down a stretch of Goetz as an investigation got underway.

The victim, believed to be a pedestrian, was not immediately identified.

A description of the possible hit-and-run vehicle was not available.

Goetz was reopened by 10:30 a.m.
