MARINA DEL REY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- An apartment building in Marina Del Rey was on lockdown Thursday afternoon as police searched for an armed robbery suspect after a high-speed chase, authorities said.

The pursuit began shortly before 1:30 p.m. as officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Gang and Narcotics Division were surveilling the suspect, a man in his 20s, in a silver Range Rover with New Jersey license plates.

The SUV driver led police on a chase whose route included surface streets and freeways before coming to stop and apparently fleeing into an apartment building in the 13900 block of Panay Way.

The man is described as having a thin build and multiple tattoos on his body and face. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt and knee-high socks.

K-9 units and a helicopter were assisting in the search, which was ongoing as of 5 p.m. A section of Panay Way was closed to all motorists, and police officers were seen searching the vehicles of motorists leaving the area.
