LOS FELIZ, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Los Angeles Unified School District police chased a suspect in a truck, who was driving erratically through surface streets in Los Feliz at high speeds Wednesday afternoon.

The district police were following the suspect around 4 p.m. after being tipped off by Los Angeles police. The driver was wanted for reckless driving.

At one point, the driver was on the 5 Freeway and then exited at Los Feliz Boulevard and dropped off a female passenger.

The suspect continued speeding through surface streets and almost hit two patrol cars when he was cornered in a residential street and then escaped.

The driver then headed on Figueroa Street, swerving through traffic and narrowly missing other vehicles. The suspect blew past red lights, stop signs and even went on the wrong side of the road at times.

The suspect eventually stopped in front of a store in Pasadena, running out of the vehicle and going through Louisiana Fried Chicken. The suspect took off his shirt and hat to try to hide from police.

He was stopped at Lake Avenue and Ladera Street by Pasadena police and taken into custody.

It was unclear why LAUSD police were initially involved in the chase. The investigation was ongoing.
