12-year-old girl breaks free of kidnap attempt in Santa Clarita

Detectives are investigating the attempted kidnapping in Santa Clarita of a 12-year-old girl who managed to break free of the suspect and flee.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- Detectives are investigating the attempted kidnapping in Santa Clarita of a 12-year-old girl who managed to break free of the suspect and flee.

The girl was attending soccer practice Wednesday night at a park on the 23500 block of Bridgeport Lane, according to the detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Santa Clarita Valley station.

The team went for a run in the neighborhood and the girl fell behind her teammates.

She told detectives a man approached her and asked if he could give her a ride.

She declined and he grabbed her arm and moved her a few feet.

But she was able to fight her way free and flee.

The suspect left the scene in a black car, possibly a Honda or Toyota, parked nearby and fled the area.

The suspect was described as a white male, about 40-50 years old, approximately 6 feet tall, with medium build and brown hair.
