HIGHLAND PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One firefighter was hospitalized and another was injured while they were battling an apartment fire in Highland Park Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to the 200 block of North Avenue 53 in Highland Park on reports of a fire in a single-story apartment. When they arrived, they found the home fully engulfed in flames and that it had spread to a nearby residence.

Crews were able to stop the fire from spreading to a nearby apartment building and knocked down the entire blaze within 70 minutes.

It took 126 firefighters to protect the remaining structures. Two firefighters were medically evaluated at the scene, authorities said. One was transported to a local hospital.

It was unclear what type of injuries the firefighters sustained, but the fire department said they were in "good condition."

The cause of the fire was unknown.
