Car hits 4 pedestrians in Los Alamitos
A car struck four pedestrians and nearly crashed into a Chase bank building Wednesday afternoon in Los Alamitos.

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. (KABC) -- A Dodge sedan struck four pedestrians and nearly crashed into a Chase bank building Wednesday afternoon in Los Alamitos.

Four rescue ambulances were ordered to the scene in what authorities are treating as a mass casualty incident. Five people, including the driver, were taken to a local hospital.

The collision was reported at Bloomfield Street and Ball Road shortly after 2 p.m. Witnesses say the car was heading north on Bloomfield and the pedestrians were walking in the crosswalk when the collision happened.

The gray four-door sedan with front-end damage was visible at the scene as authorities investigated.

It appeared to have crashed through the bank's outer hedges and came to a stop in the drive-thru lane just feet from the building.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
