Teen sought in suspected arson after fight with mom in Pico Rivera
Authorities in Pico Rivera were searching for a teenage boy on suspicion of setting his house on fire after getting in an argument with his mother.

PICO RIVERA, Calif. (KABC) -- Authorities in Pico Rivera said a teenage boy was suspected of setting his house on fire after getting in an argument with his mother.

Around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, authorities said a 15-year-old boy got into an argument with his mother. He then set the house on fire and fled from the residence.

The mother and another person were able to get out of the house unharmed, authorities said. The fire was knocked down, but the home was deemed uninhabitable.

Residents said they were shocked to hear what happened in their neighborhood.

"Actually, they're fairly new neighbors. I would say they've been here about three months or so. They were doing a lot of renovations to their home and I would never guess that someone would try to destroy it in a manner that happened tonight," Javier Ortiz said.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies then set up a perimeter around the neighborhood to search for the juvenile, but could not find him.

The perimeter was eventually knocked down. Around 8:10 p.m., the teen returned to his home and cooperated with authorities.

The investigation was ongoing.
