The mystery surrounding a possible gas leak in Los Angeles' Westside has been solved.

Southern California Gas Company traced the odor to a spill of the odorous compound that's used to give natural gas its strong smell.

The spill only involved the odorous compound - and there was no gas leak.

The spill happened near the intersection of Pico Boulevard and Overland Avenue Wednesday night at a third-party production company, SoCalGas said.

The odor from the spill reached as far as Culver City, Westwood, Exposition Park, Midvale, Brookhaven, Cheviot Hills, Rancho Park and Venice.

The spill has been cleaned up and there is no threat.
