Cool Kid Justin Zilberstein helps national park while earning every merit badge

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (KABC) -- As part of his Eagle Scout project, 18-year-old Justin Zilberstein helped turn a small barn into a vital storage space at Paramount Ranch. The ranch is a national park attraction, located in the Santa Monica Mountains, and is often used as a film set.

"We basically had to redo the entire room," said Zilberstein. "From the electrical to the flooring to the walls."

The senior at Oak Park High School has also accomplished something most scouts will never do.

"I'm one of I guess 367 people in history to achieve all of scouting's merit badges available at a set time," said Zilberstein. "You just become a more well-rounded individual, and it just helps for the future. It's invaluable."

The Thousand Oaks teen organized a team that transformed the barn into a rodent-free room, by installing a new cement floor, layers of wire mesh in the walls and they also added lights.

"We can feel comfortable putting things in there that won't get chewed upon, that's for sure," said Paramount Ranch volunteer Mike Malone. "Justin was somebody who had the maturity and the ability to help pull this together."

Zilberstein also added three new picnic tables to the park. It's a leadership experience he calls priceless as he now prepares for college. He's majoring in finance.

"It's something the community will use for years to come," he said.
