54 cats removed from unsanitary Pasadena home

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- A total of 54 cats removed from an unsanitary home in Pasadena are now being treated at the city's humane society.

Animal experts from the facility responded to a home Tuesday near the intersection of Allen Avenue and Corson Street after receiving an anonymous complaint.

Officers talked with the homeowner, who agreed to surrender the cats.

Pasadena Humane Society officials said they removed 23 cats from the same home in January of last year.

"It is very, very hard for us to see, but we now know that the animals are going to be taken care of. They're back at the Pasadena Humane Society. They're in clean kennels, they're going to have medical checks, they're going to be given plenty of food, water and love," said spokesperson Jamie Holeman.

The cats will get any medical attention they might need, and the hope is that all of the cats will eventually be adopted by new owners.
